A Cambodian government official says former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has left the country but he refused to divulge where the media tycoon was headed.
Deputy minister Prak Sokhon says Thaksin flew out of the country on his private jet Saturday. He would not reveal his destination.
Thaksin, a former telecommunications billionaire, was ousted by a 2006 military coup. He fled Thailand last year to avoid imprisonment on a corruption charge and now spends most of his time in Dubai.
Thaksin's warm welcome in Cambodia came after he was named an economic adviser to Prime Minister Hun Sen. The move has strained already uneasy bilateral relations between the two Southeast Asia neighbors.
